NEW YORK ORGAN DONOR NETWORK SIGNS
12-YEAR LEASE IN MIDTOWN MANHATTAN

30,000 square foot deal is the largest by a
non-profit in Manhattan this year

New York, NY, June 5, 2009: The New York Organ Donor Network, the nonprofit, federally designated organ procurement organization that serves 13 million people in the greater New York metropolitan area, today announced that it has leased 30,000 square feet at 460 West 34th Street in Manhattan.

An important benefit of this new location is the positioning of the Donor Network’s Donor Center, a 24/7 call center that will be centrally located in the new space, and in close proximity to clinical and hospital support staff. The Donor Center is the communication hub for all organ, eye and tissue procurement activities in interaction with 100 hospitals and 10 transplant centers in the region.

The move to 460 West 34th Street will allow for construction of a larger state-of-the-art clinical operations unit while providing ample space for public activities, meetings and events.

“As the rental rates in Manhattan began to drop in late winter and early spring, we were able to identify a number of potential buildings that offered exceptional value,” said Elaine Berg, president and CEO of the New York Organ Donor Network. “The move will allow us to most efficiently further our mission of saving as many lives as possible.”

New York Organ Donor Network:
Founded in 1978, the New York Organ Donor Network is the second largest of the nation’s 58 nonprofit, federally designated organ procurement organizations. It is responsible for the recovery of organs and tissues for transplantation, and public and professional education efforts about organ, eye and tissue donation in the greater New York metropolitan area. The Donor Network is fully accredited by the Association of Organ Procurement Organizations and the American Association of Tissue Banks.

The New York State Donate Life Registry:
The registry is a confidential database administered by the New York State Department of Health. By enrolling in the registry, New Yorkers document their legal consent to become donors. Once they have enrolled in the registry, New Yorkers are given the opportunity to be specific in terms of what organs and tissues they wish to donate, and they can also elect to donate organs to research.
